The Office of the President wishes to express it’s profound gratitude to all key stakeholders who contributed to the success of the 2019 General Elections.

As is customary, at the end of every five years Botswana holds a general election for the nation to choose its representatives at local government and national assembly levels. We have just witnessed the election process unfolding before us and it was run very successfully overall. This is testimony to the long and enduring history of successful elections held by this country since the attainment of independence. This success has been possible primarily because the voters by and large were exemplary in portraying our culture of tolerance, respect for one another and respect for the rule of law.

The above notwithstanding, the unsung heroes are often those who make the entire election machinery to run smoothly and effectively, some behind the scenes, and others in the forefront – the public servants. There is no doubt that the success of this election is a direct result of the public servants’ dedication, selflessness, personal sacrifice, patience, endurance, long days and sleepless nights, hard work and general support to make the election a reality.

I therefore take this opportunity to thank sincerely all public servants who played a part in this election. These include staff of the Independent Electoral Commission, members of the Botswana Police Service, the Botswana Defence Force, staff from various councils, members of the teaching fraternity, drivers, volunteers, broadcasters in their various categories, and many others who may not be listed here. I thank you for the excellent delivery of the elections, which were done in accordance with the law, and with results generally accepted by almost all candidates.

On behalf of the entire public service and on my own behalf, I want to say a sincere and heartfelt Thank You for a job well done. You were a true embodiment of a focused public service that is envied by many the world over.
