Essential workers are out every day and every night in an effort to control the spread of the deadly novel corona virus. In the fight against this pandemic they deal with the possibility of coming into contact with the disease. The police officers, the prison officialls and the army had been some of the workers who had been at the forefront of this fight from day one, and they still continue to risk their lives in order to save that of the public.

Serowe Station commander superintendent Poloko Oteng said ever since the government introduced covid 19 regulations to be followed in order to control the spread of the disease, they have been committed to making sure that they are enforced.

In an interview with the Patriot on Sunday, Oteng applauded the men and women in the police, prisons and army in his jurisdiction for their unwavering commitment in the fight against covid 19.

He said most of the time these officers work beyond their knock off time in an effort to enforce the law. He further said they don’t have that luxury time to relax because he said the moment they relax to take air that is when the disease makes its presence.

“My officer sometimes come to work at 6 a.m in the morning and knock off at 6 p.m in the evening missing his 2 p.m afternoon knock off time because he is sometimes held up at cattle post or lands somewhere investigating cases…because we experience a lot of covid 19 regulations contravention at this places because people now had moved there in order to continue making traditional brews because they believe it is out of reach of the police” he said.

The station commander said even though the police try to show presence in every corner of the jurisdiction, there are those who still choose not heed to the government plea to desist from some activities which may contribute to the spread of the disease. “Not a day goes by without an arrest of those who contravene covid 19 rules’ lamented Oteng

He further said when the government eased some of the regulations during face two of lockdown and some of the shops were allowed to open they experienced a lot of movement with some people now ignoring the fact that they need permit in order to go out.

“People should know that permits are still in use and will be used until they are officially stopped, I implore people who want to go out to make permits because those permits serve a purpose, and please if you really don’t need to go out stay home” cautioned Oteng.

Superintendent Oteng further implored shops who had been allowed to start operations to adhere to the regulations set for them as it will save lives, he however said those who don’t heed to this rules will face the long arm of the law.

“we have a team made of the police, byelaw and environmental science officers that is dedicated to ensuring that shops follow this regulations, if you don’t meet this regulations please don’t open, wait until you have met the set the standards” advised Oteng.
