Chinese Embassy donates PPE’s to Botswana Red Cross Society

The Embassy of China in Botswana continues with its efforts to assist in the response of COVID-19. The Embassy donated PPE’s comprising of masks, protective gloves, googles and protecting clothing to the Botswana Red Cross Society. The Chinese ambassador to Botswana his Excellency Mr Zhao Yanbo stated that the donation from the Embassy will assist Botswana Red Cross Volunteers and Staff members across the country with their humanitarian response during COVID-19.

The CEO of Botswana Red Cross Mr Kutlwano Mukokomani highlighted that the Botswana Red Cross Society is a response organisation during disasters and pandemics such as COVID 19 and is  currently working closely with the National Disaster Management Office at office of the President, The Ministry of Local Government  and the Ministry of Health and wellness to intensify interventions and response to COVID-19.Mr. Mukokomani further highlighted that The Embassy of China in Botswana has been a critical partner to the Botswana Red Cross on issues of disaster management and assisting the most vulnerable communities.  This is evident by the amount of generous support that the Red Cross received from the embassy over the past years. One of those support being purchasing of tents that the Botswana Red Cross is currently using to decongest high volume vulnerable families during COVID-19.

Mr Kutlwano Mukokomani thanked the Chinese Embassy in Botswana for the generous support and highlighted that the donated equipment will safeguard and protect the Red Cross Volunteers as they respond to COVID-19.

The Chinese ambassador to Botswana his excellency Mr Zhao Yanbo thanked the good humanitarian work that the Red Cross has been doing worldwide and in Botswana in response to COVID-19. He further assured his support to the Botswana Red cross in their response to disasters and pandemics by ensuring that they serve the vulnerable with the humanity and dignity they deserve.
