All set for the Jwaneng/Maun 800km AM640+ Charity Cycle Challenge

Cyclists from across Botswana and South Africa are finalising preparations for the Albert Milton Foundation AM640+ Charity Cycle Challenge that takes place on Sunday.

The multi-day ride brings together elite peloton cyclists, recreational riders, and corporate sponsors for a demanding 800-kilometre journey from Jwaneng to Maun, driving support for community health and youth development across the country.

The AM640+ Challenge honours the legacy of the late Debswana Managing Director and avid cyclist, Albert Milton. The challenge distance reflects what would have been his 64th milestone year, with the “+” signifying the extended journey to reach Maun. Beyond the immediate ride, the Foundation is working toward establishing a national cycling academy to nurture local sporting talent.

Participating in the journey, Mrs. Albertinah Milton, Founder and Trustee of the Albert Milton Foundation, emphasized the purpose behind the physical endurance required for the route:

“Covering nearly 800 kilometres demands discipline, rigorous preparation, and physical resilience. But the true driver behind every kilometre is impact. We are riding to mobilize real support for the communities along this route who benefit from the Foundation’s initiatives.”

Bomaid champions preventative health as Headline Partner

Botswana Medical Aid Society (Bomaid) has reaffirmed its partnership with the Foundation, contributing over P100,000 toward this year’s challenge. Bomaid Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Moraki Mokgosana, will lead the corporate contingent as Chief Rider.

Speaking on the partnership, Mokgosana highlighted the direct link between active living and long-term preventative health:

“Preventative healthcare starts with simple, deliberate daily decisions, moving more, prioritizing rest, and making active choices. The AM640+ challenge embodies these principles. As Chief Rider, I am proud that our team is taking on these kilometres to demonstrate that personal wellness can be a powerful vehicle for social good.”

Engaging Customers Through the Thrive App

Bomaid customers do not have to be on a bicycle to become part of the journey. Through the Thrive with Bomaid App, customers can convert their accumulated Thrive reward points into direct financial contributions for the AM640+ community projects.

“You do not have to cycle from Jwaneng to Maun to make a difference,” added Mr. Mokgosana. “Every step our customers take toward their personal health can now directly support vulnerable communities. We encourage all our customers to convert their Thrive points and join us in this collective effort.”

The ride will end at Bana Ba Letsatsi, an organization supporting vulnerable children and youth in Maun. To support their operations, Bomaid, in partnership with Chobe Holdings, has donated and installed three water geysers at the facility, which will be officially handed over on 24 September 2026.

The official flag-off takes place in Jwaneng on Sunday, 20 September, with the Assistant Minister of Health Honorable Lawrence Ookeditse expected to join leadership from the Albert Milton Foundation, Bomaid, and corporate partners. Engaging Customers Through the Thrive App
