Botswana government has distanced itself from fully backing the multi-billion pulaZotus Smart City project, saying no money has been committed and the deal remains a non-binding memorandum. While officials insist Botswana risks nothing but land, Zotus CEO Davison Simango defends the project’s legitimacy, assuring the public that they are not scammers.

This means the proposed $50 billion (over P650 billion) mega-project remains a vision on paper, with both government and the developer still at the early stages of discussion. The admission comes amid growing public doubt about the authenticity of Zotus City Development Group, the company behind the project, which plans to build a Dubai-style smart city near Ghanzi.
