Bank Gaborone has stepped up its digital banking integration through launching Card-2-Card payment solution in its Mobile Banking App as the bank’s digital banking strategy takes shape.

The bank’s Managing Director Sybrand Coetzee said the Card-2–Card forms part of the bank’s digital banking strategy, which aims to provide an enhanced user experience to their customers.

He said while Covid-19 posed a great health threat to the world and shook the world economy it has also shone the light on the importance of digital transformation and its relevance in a world where technology has become vital to their finances.

“Card-2- Card is a feature in our newly enhanced Mobile Banking App, which allows customers to instantly send money to a trusted partner with a Botswana issued debit and/or credit card. In fact it was through their valuable feedback that we were able to create a very affordable, smart, secure and convenient solution with fewer clicks to enable effortless transactions,” said Coetzee.

He said the bank’s drive to provide innovative solutions to its customers allows the bank to partner with them to co-create services which empower them to have a greater control of their finances. The Bank Gaborone executive said the App has evolved since its introduction to the market in 2019.

According to the optimistic Coetzee, their intention as the bank is not only to provide an affordable option but to offer their customers a high tech solution which safeguards them against fraud.

“Bank Gaborone is a regulated financial institution and therefore, Card-2-Card and its transacting ability has been approved by the Bank of Botswana. Furthermore, Card-2 Card is powered VISA, the largest and most utilized electronic transfer company amongst financial institutions in the world,” he said.

Coetzee noted that the card is currently utilised in multiple countries in Africa such as Malawi, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Tanzania respectively, hence the bank is confident on its safety features.

There are also smart features which enable customers to manage the card and Electronic Funds Transfer limits as well as disable lost or stolen cards. Customers can also locate their nearest branch on the Apps Google Map locator. In addition to that, the customers can now include a reference when purchasing airtime or electricity, schedule payments to multiple beneficiaries and more,” the bank said in a statement on Wednesday when launching the payment solution App.
