Athletics series continues

• Athletes target qualification for major Championships

Bouyed by the P9 million three year Debswana sponsorship announced last week, Botswana Athletics Association (BAA) was over the weekend scheduled to hold a third track and field series at Obed Itani Chilume Stadium in Francistown.

Like the first two events, the series is a qualifier for the four major international championships billed for later in 2022. These include Africa Senior Championships, World Championships, World U-20 and Commonwealth Games.

Last weekend Letsile Tebogo qualified for the World U-20 Championships and the Africa Senior championships in the 400m race. Earlier, at the first meet of the series on January 16 in Gaborone, Oarabile Tshosa and Thuto Masasa qualified for the Senior Africa Championships.

The P9 million sponsorship will span the period 2022 to 2024.
