In a continued effort to fight the ensuing impact of the Coronavirus pandemic, Stanbic Bank Botswana officially handed-over community relief collateral at the Bank’s Head Office in Fairgrounds on the 14th of July 2020.

Said Stanbic Bank Botswana Chief Executive, Mr. Samuel Minta, “As Stanbic Bank Botswana we remain steadfast in our passion for driving Botswana’s growth and making a meaningful difference in the communities we serve. This comes as part of our SEE Value Driver which focuses on the Social, Economic and Environmental impact of how we do business. The Bank’s donation comes as part of their unwavering commitment to uplift the communities in which they serve. The donation will be distributed amongst community members where the Bank is represented including, Gaborone, Palapye, Selibe-Phikwe, Francistown, Maun, Kazungula and Mogoditshane: 4000 Masks of which 1850 will go to Mahupu Unified Secondary School and communities in which the Bank is represented; 2000 Sanitisers to be distributed in communities where the Bank is represented; 500 Toiletry Hampers of which 150 will go to Mahupu Unified Secondary School and communities in which the Bank is represented; P100 000.00 to the University of Botswana Research Division towards COVID-19 Infectious Diseases research led by Professor Mosepele.

Speaking at the handover, Professor Mosepele Mosepele of the Presidential COVID-19 Task Force said, “We greatly appreciate the cooperation and support from Stanbic Bank Botswana. We are excited to receive this support, as we rarely get funding locally for research. This donation will certainly allow us to look further into COVID-19 protocols and adopting new ways of working so that people are safer around the workplace.”

The Bank’s position as part of the Standard Bank Group and as a business is clear and consistent: the welfare of its staff, customers and wider stakeholders is paramount. As a team, the Bank is committed to understanding the direct and indirect impacts of the Coronavirus pandemic. The Bank’s CSI initiatives contribute towards building its desired culture for their employees through demonstrating that the Bank is a responsible corporate citizen.

The Bank prides itself in encouraging Employee Community Involvement to motivate and promote volunteerism. Stanbic Bank Botswana’s Head of Human Capital, Chedza Balopi said: “As Stanbic Bank Botswana we recognise that our growth is inherently interwoven with that of Botswana and her people. Thus, we are passionate about contributing towards sustainable success and growth for Botswana and indeed Batswana, because as we like to say, Botswana is our home and we must and will therefore drive her growth. The Bank has a longstanding relationship with the faculty and students of Mahupu Unified Secondary School as we believe that our youth are indeed our future. Our aim is to empower Botswana’s youth with the necessary motivation and infrastructure to help promote academic excellence. This is a long-term vision, ensuring we educate our youth and support them through their growth journeys.
