The Mascom Top 8 reigning champions Orapa United aka Ostriches battle out in a home fixture too with three times Rwandan cup champions As Kigali on the preliminary round of the CAF Confederation cup.

Orapa United Public Relations Officer is optimistic that the team will progress to the next stage. In an interview, William said the team has been preparing so well for the AS Kigali CAF match. “It is going to be a difficult game since we don’t know our opponents very well but our major target is to finish them off in the first leg here in home. As Kigali just like us the last time they played a competitive football match was in March before Covid-19 disruption,” said William.

The upbeat Ostriches mouthpiece stated that the team is in good shape in terms of fitness.

He noted that all players are available and training except Onkemetse Powe who is in injury.

William also said they have been aware of the climate situation in Rwanda noting that of late there has been heavy rainfalls which could be a distracting factor for Ostriches in the away game.

AS Kigali just like Orapa United are yet to win premier league but it has impressive record in winning the cups as it has won two titles of Rwandan Cup twice in 2013-2019 and Super cup in 2013.

The Ostriches have won all the domestic cups being Mascom Top and Orange FA cup respectively.

Jwaneng Galaxy PRO Tankiso Morake said he is no privy to discuss with media the details of their CAF champion’s league match against the Comoros side until some things are cleared up.

“We cannot with media over the game because of some internal issues that needs to come out clear first. But I can tell you that the team is preparing thoroughly for the match,’’ he said late Friday in interview noting that Galaxy will play friendly match with BDF XI at Lobatse yesterday.

Galaxy’s Comoros opponent won the league three times in 1992-93, 1997-98 and 2020 seasons respectively while Galaxy claimed its first league title during 2019/20 season that was nullified.
