Grand sendoff for Makwala on cards

The Makwala Challenge Cup wishes to announce that its patron, the legendary athlete Mr Isaac Makwala, who was part of the relay team brought home a medal from the recent Olympic Games, is beginning his journey to retire from active athletics. Mr Makwala is a national hero who has on numerous occasions brought home medals from world athletic competitions, even at times when doing so did not seem attainable. Affectionately known as Badman, Mr Makwala is a national icon who has also been honoured by the Botswana Government which is constructing a sports complex in Tutume to be named after him. The Government has further bestowed him with a Presidential Certificate of Honour (PCH), which is one of the highest honours given by the country’s highest office; the presidency. Following his relay team’s spectacular performance at the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, over the weekend, Mr Makwala announced his imminent retirement from the tracks, meaning that this was his last appearance at the Olympics.

The Makwala Challenge Cup which is a club made up of four festive tournaments in Tutume, where Mr Makwala was born and raised has therefore, decided to organize a grand send off for this great son of Botswana. The tournaments making up the Makwala Challenge Cup are Goledzwa, Tjinyuni Babili, Tjivulamagwe and Tjilagwane.The Makwala Challenge Cup therefore, wishes to invite all Batswana and residents of this country, including businesses to contribute to this great send off in any way they can. This can be financial, in kind or as one may choose. Any pledges, presents or donations as the case maybe, can be forwarded to the following contacts by call or App detailing their names, type of pledge and contact details:
