BDP dilemma

BPP feasting on the BDP

The former Chief Executive Officer of the multi billion pula behemoth, Botswana Public Officers Pension Fund (BPOPF), Boitumelo Molefe has rubbished allegations by the Acting Permanent Secretary to the President, Emma Peloetletse that the former granted her permission to accept sponsorship for the controversial Cape Town jazz festival in 2017.

The controversy surrounding the Cape Town sojourn is that it was sponsored by a BPOPF service provider -asset management firm Capital Management Botswana (CMB).  “I did not grant her permission. The trustees ethics policy, including declarations of interests of trustees is well known to them after being taken through it many times at Trustee inductions and nowhere does it include approval by the CEO. The CEO is not an approver of Trustee or staff gifts. Gifts are only accepted through declaration. Also, trips where service providers pay were strictly forbidden in the policy,” said Molefe in an exclusive interview.
