COVID -19 RELIEF FUND DONATIONS

The Botswana Democratic Party wishes to commend the government and all private and corporate citizens who have contributed to the COVID-19 Relief Fund established by the COVID- 19 Presidential Task Force to mitigate the socioeconomic impacts of the pandemic. The COVID-19 Relief Fund is the official government platform for all donations towards aiding the most adversely affected in our society and we encourage all prospective donors to contribute to the fund. 

It has come to our attention however that some have out of empathic concern and in efforts to assist the affected taken to soliciting for donations from members of the public aimed to assist affected members of their communities. We believe that such collections are a duplication of efforts and prone to mismanagement. To this end, we call on all members of the Party to desist from collecting donations in the name of the Party or response to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

We urge the public to disregard a flyer circulated on social media to solicit for donations under the auspices of the National Youth Executive Committee (NYEC) of the BDP. The Party has engaged the NYEC on this matter and further redress will be communicated. 

We call on all Batswana and residents to adhere to precautionary measures prescribed by health officials and continue the fight against the spread of the CoronaVirus. Together we can defeat COVID-19.
