Opposition Botswana Congress Party (BCP) has sidelined their comrades at Botswana Labour Party (BLP) in preparations for the 2024 general elections, a development which frustrates the latter, The Patriot on Sunday has learnt.
BLP approached BCP and Alliance for Progressives (AP) to be part of their coalition before the latter bolted to rejoin the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC). Sources close to developments intimate that BLP leadership has in many unsuccessful bids tried to call the BCP leadership to the table to discuss way forward regarding formation of a new coalition, but BCP leadership ignored them.
BCP is said to have completely lost interest in forming a coalition with BLP since it views the party as very insignificant compared to AP in terms of numbers and quality of the members. “BLP is feeling sabotaged and ignored by BCP ever since AP pulled out of the talks. BCP has not been effectively engaging with BLP which is pushing for cooperation talks to continue. Also, BCP is not all interested to merge with BLP because it believes that it has nothing to offer at all,” a source confided.
