With the writ of election issued for Moselewapula, a ward at Francistown West constituency which fell vacant following the death of BCP of the UDC councilor Rheuben Kethoilwe(MHSRIP), the sprouting relationship between the Alliance for Progressives and Botswana Congress Party must contest the bye election and assert its authority as a better alternative to the besieged UDC.

Bophirima was not the issue but the venue for the issue. The BCPYL contend that the grievances which resulted in the BCP fielding a candidate against UDC of the BNF at Bophirima have not only been addressed but taken a turn for the worst. The relationship between the BCP and BNF and its appendage have reached irreconcilable differences and being dilatory to carve a new path with like minded opposition parties like Ndaba Gaolatlhe lead AP hoping for the best is suicide. UDC is not the alpha and omega of opposition unity. The horse has bolted and the moment is opportune to solidify our relationship with AP. Contesting Moselewapula abets our burgeoning relationship with AP whilst on the other hand distancing ourselves from the toxic relationship with UDC of the BNF and truncating our journey to the exit door from the toxic marriage. Democracy, Good Governance and Constitutionalism or Nothing.

The sham that was BNFWL elective congress

The BCPYL noted with comical relief a weak attempt at polarizing our nucleus masked in the form of suspensions to our head and heart. A body cant function without any of the two, what more when both parts/organ have been decapitated!!! The BCPYL considers the suspension of the BCP Leader and the BCP chief administrator as effectively the suspension of the BCP from the UDC by its ‘natural leaders’. We further aver that the suspension is inconsequential and the desire to divide the BCP by targeting its two most senior leaders will fall flat on its face.

The BCPYL is committed to offering an alternative rule to the moribund BDP. We comprehend the nation’s chronic yearning for change but also cautions against desperation. The Libyans were desperate to rid themselves of Gadaffi’s tyranny but ended with a failed state. Over a decade post the despot’s ousting the oil rich country is yet to recover from the Arab Awakening. In our quest to usher in a new regime lets not compromise on fundamental principles of Governance, Democracy and respect of the constitution. A leader who cant respect the constitution of his party is a leader who will not respect the constitution of the state. Lets not just yearn to obviate the BDP electoral hegemony. Lets rather aspire to end the BDP’s dominance with a better alternative.

Towards a democratic Coalition

We remain

BCPYL
