Bank Gaborone Celebrates 20 Years of Connecting Positive Change in Botswana

Bank Gaborone is marking a significant milestone as it celebrates 20 years of serving Botswana, reflecting on two decades of growth, innovation and meaningful contribution to the country’s economic development.

Twenty years gives an institution something valuable: perspective. It provides an opportunity to reflect on what has been built, recognise the people and partnerships that made it possible, and look ahead to the future with renewed ambition.

Bank Gaborone’s journey began in 2006 when it received its banking licence and opened its first branch on Pilane Road in Main Mall, Gaborone. Since then, the Bank has evolved into a leading financial institution with a growing footprint across Botswana and a strong reputation for customer service, innovation and community impact.

Guided by its purpose of being Connectors of Positive Change, Bank Gaborone has played animportant role in supporting individuals, businesses and communities throughout Botswana. Through its Retail Banking business, the Bank has empowered thousands of Batswana to achieve their aspirations through home ownership, education financing, savings and personal financial solutions.

The Bank’s Business, Commercial and Corporate Banking segments have supported entrepreneurs, small and medium enterprises, and large corporates, helping businesses expand, create employment opportunities and contribute to national economic growth.

Over the years, Bank Gaborone has also been at the forefront of banking innovation, introducing a range of digital and customer-centric solutions designed to improve accessibility, convenience and financial inclusion. Key milestones include the launch of Mobile Banking, Online Banking, Credit Cards, Card-to-Card transfers, Easy-2-Pay, Self Onboarding and mobile money integration, among other pioneering initiatives.
