Bank Gaborone is marking a significant milestone as it celebrates 20 years of serving Botswana, reflecting on two decades of growth, innovation and meaningful contribution to the country’s economic development.

Twenty years gives an institution something valuable: perspective. It provides an opportunity to reflect on what has been built, recognise the people and partnerships that made it possible, and look ahead to the future with renewed ambition.

Bank Gaborone’s journey began in 2006 when it received its banking licence and opened its first branch on Pilane Road in Main Mall, Gaborone. Since then, the Bank has evolved into a leading financial institution with a growing footprint across Botswana and a strong reputation for customer service, innovation and community impact.

Guided by its purpose of being Connectors of Positive Change, Bank Gaborone has played animportant role in supporting individuals, businesses and communities throughout Botswana. Through its Retail Banking business, the Bank has empowered thousands of Batswana to achieve their aspirations through home ownership, education financing, savings and personal financial solutions.

The Bank’s Business, Commercial and Corporate Banking segments have supported entrepreneurs, small and medium enterprises, and large corporates, helping businesses expand, create employment opportunities and contribute to national economic growth.

Over the years, Bank Gaborone has also been at the forefront of banking innovation, introducing a range of digital and customer-centric solutions designed to improve accessibility, convenience and financial inclusion. Key milestones include the launch of Mobile Banking, Online Banking, Credit Cards, Card-to-Card transfers, Easy-2-Pay, Self Onboarding and mobile money integration, among other pioneering initiatives.

Reflecting on the milestone, Acting Managing Director Mr Tsaone Raboloko said:
“As we celebrate 20 years of Bank Gaborone, we do so with immense pride in what has been achieved and deep appreciation for the people who made it possible. While we celebrate our branches, innovations, products and milestones, we recognise that people built this bank. The commitment, passion and dedication of our Citizens over the years have enabled us to create positive change for our customers, communities and the broader Botswana economy.”
Mr Raboloko noted that the Bank’s achievements have been underpinned by its values of being Inspired, Dedicated and Open-Minded.

“These values continue to guide how we serve our customers and support our stakeholders. They have inspired us to innovate, dedicated us to excellence, and enabled us to embrace change in a rapidly evolving banking environment.”

As the Bank celebrates this landmark anniversary, it remains firmly focused on the future.
“Twenty years is not the destination; it is the foundation for our next chapter. As we enter a new financial year, we will continue to challenge ourselves to deliver even greater value to our customers, strengthen relationships, drive innovation and contribute meaningfully to Botswana’s development. Together, we have achieved a great deal, but our best years are still ahead of us.”

Bank Gaborone expressed its gratitude to its customers, shareholders, partners, regulators and employees past and present for their contribution to the Bank’s success over the last two decades.
As it celebrates this historic milestone, the Bank remains committed to its purpose of connecting people, businesses and communities to opportunities that create sustainable positive change and shared prosperity
