Botswana National Sports Commission (BNSC) on Wednesday inducted into its Hall of Fame books karate master Sensei Socca Moruakgomo and the late football legend Samuel Sono.

Now a popular jazz musician, Moruakgomo, who is a karate master has set up Socca Karate Academy and Fitness Centre in Gaborone. Sensei Moruakgomo expressed gratitude for being the inductee in the sixth BNSC Hall of Fame following its establishment in 2014. He said it is a great honour that motivates him more. “My vision to start the Karate academy targeting the young Karatekas is derived from my passion to see sport growing in our country. I am keen on teaching Karate at grass roots level and this weekend I will taking a team for training in South Africa,” jubiliant Moruakgomo said on the sidelines of the induction ceremony.

Another inductee is former local football stalwart who played for the Zebras in early 1980s and later founded one the best football teams to come from Selebi Phikwe town being FC SATMOS. However, a club established out of the late Sam Sono’s idea has since collapsed following its relegation from the super league and subsequently from first division in 2017.

Sono played for local clubs amongst others Township Rollers, making part of one of the most formidable Rollers line-up in the 80s and later went on to develop football in Selibe Phikwe. In recognition of his massive contribution to sport development, Selebi Phikwe Town Council Stadium was re-named the Sam Sono stadium in 2017.

Tsietsi Kebualemang who is a professional boxing trainer who coached professional boxers in Germany at the peak of his career, was also inducted alongside Sensei Moruakgomo and Sono.
