Non Governmental Organisation , Elephant Protection Society will this afternoon conduct a mass feeding of hippos at Nxaraga Hippo Pools, near Maun.

Due to the ongoing drought water dependent animals find themselves in a devastating situation, since pastures have dwindled. Therefore,  the animals are forced to travel long distances to find food and water.

Nxaraga hippo pool used to be home to more than 200 hippos. The department of wildlife and national parks earlier recorded high mortality rate of hippos in the area, leaving only around 80 hippos remaining. Elephant Protection is conducting a mass feeding project to save the remaining 80 hippos.
