As Francistown West MP,Ignatius Moswaane’s political career hangs in the balance, some BDP members have signed a petition that will be handed to the party central committee which is due to meet today (Monday) at 10 am.
The petition is meant to convince the central committee not to suspend the controversial and outspoken Moswaane from the ruling BDP and ultimately block him from contesting under the BDP ticket.
Apparently, the petitioners argue that should Moswaane be suspended, the party will lose the constituency at the upcoming general elections.
Four council candidates being Gilbert Boikhutso of Moselewapula,Kago Philime of Kanana ward,Baboni Mosalagae of Monarch South and Almando Gopolang of Monarch North have signed the petition in support of Moswaane while Ontiretse Bakaile of Botsalano and Ramolotsana Gaethusi of Tati Town refused to sign the petition.
A source who attended the meeting where the petition was authored claimed that should the central committee go ahead and resolve to suspend Moswaane,he will contest the upcoming polls as an independent candidate.
Moswaane is said to have rubbed the party leadership the wrong way by objecting the 900 million pula water tender.
It is said that the BDP parliamentary caucus had agreed that the tender should be approved but Moswaane disregarded the party caucus decision.
Under the BDP, party caucus decisions are biding to all members and any member can face the music for disregarding caucus decisions.
