Morupule coal mine celebrates loyalty

Morupule Coal Mine in Palapye  held a long service recognition awards ceremony for its employees on Thursday. The event was the mine management’s recognition for the employees’ individual and collective contributions  to the success of the operations of Morupule Coal Mine . A total of 110 employees were presented with certificates, with one hundred and three for their five years of passionate service, two for fifteen years and five who will be retiring at the end of the year.

The guests invited included Palapye Constituency Member of Parliament, Onneetse Ramogapi and Morupule Ward councillor Jordan Makhura. Delivering his address, Morupile Coal Mine General Manager David Kgoboko said the long service awards epitomized the employees commitment, loyality and trust to the coal business. “These awards signify our appreciation as management for the thousands of little things we do every day that add up to the high quality of service at Morupule Coal Mine,“ he said, adding that although many would think five years is insignificant, it is a milestone worth celebrating.

Kgoboko revealed that over the years he has witnessed the quality of work and professional integrity that the employees demonstrated “which is exactly what resulted in this achievements that are being recognized today.” He said all their efforts are attributable to their desire and conviction of ensuring that Morupule Coal Mine become a leading mine.

Kgoboko called on the five year award recipients to use available technology to innovate around costs and innovate around operational efficiencies. To the retirees, he appealed to them that as they will be entering a new phase of life and joining various communities “we urge you to be our ambassadors and continue to preach this gospel of safety, respect for human rights and leadership excellence.”

Dr Master Oboletswe Matlhaope, was invited as an expert to come and give insights on how to navigate through life during retirement. He urged those about to retire to treat retirement as a source of joy and not of mourning. “Retirement should be viewed as a new beginning. It is an opportunity to kickstart the projects that you have always wanted to embark on but couldn’t because of your commitment to Morupule Coal Mine.”

The event culminated with a dinner dance celebration.
