All set for the FNBB Botswana Golden Grand Prix

For eight hours on April 29, Botswana will be the centre of attention for the athletics world. Some of the world’s finest athletes – including about seven world record holders – will be in parade at the FNBB Botswana Golden Grand Prix – Southern Africa’s very first and biggest athletics event ever.

With over 200 athletes lined up in track and field events, Botswana’s first Grand Prix boosts the big names in global track among others Jamaican superstar Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, 400m Guyan Kirani James and Botswana’s very own sprint king Tebogo Letsile among others.

Letsile in fact is the country’s triumph card, carrying the hopes of the nation in the world’s most watched track event – 100m – where he has already been compared with the world’s record holder, retired Jamaican Usain Bolt.

As the first such event to be hosted in Southern Africa, it stands to expose Botswana to millions of global audiences drawn from over 154 countries that have subscribed to World Athletics.  

The day’s events have been divided into morning and afternoon sessions; with live streaming starting at 1435 hours to 1630 hours covering key track events and winding up with the most loved relays. A week preceding the event global media accredited to broadcast will be expected to raise the profile of the country as it drums up support for the event.
