Grant Thornton’s Private Business Growth Awards – companies rewarded for excellence

This week’s Global Expo 2018 held under the theme ‘Seizing opportunities through networking with global business leaders’ at Fairgrounds in Gaborone, attracted about more than 13 countries from Africa, Europe and Asia.

It brought together leading industry professionals, product suppliers, agents and distributors, as well as leading minds from diverse backgrounds to give in-depth deliberations and analysis on trending economics and global business topics.

As part of the Global Expo in association with Business Botswana and Botswana Investment and Trade Centre (BITC) the 4th edition of Grant Thornton’s Private Business Growth Awards ceremony was also celebrated. The awards aim to celebrate Botswana’s private sectors success stories.

Grant Thornton awards consisted of medium and large business category including the PBGA BITC special category award finalists. Branstorne Enterprises was named a winner in Medium Business Category while Mr. Veg was a winner in large business category.

There were four awards namely the Investor of the year award in manufacturing which was won by Bokomo Botswana, Investor of the year in Services won by Monte Catering & Refrigeration, Investor of the year award expansions won by Chloride Exide and Exporter of the year award won by Nortex.

The Minister of Trade, Investment and Industry Bogolo Kenewendo highlighted that the ease of doing business in Botswana was improving.

“It is with this mandate that BITC associated themselves; with Grant Thornton, who conceptualise the Private Business Growth Awards in 2015, as a means of showcasing private sector success stories in Botswana,” she said.  Also present at the event was Vice President Slumber Tsogwane who gave special remarks and the vice president of India Shri Muppavarapu Naidu, who officially opened the Expo.

Tsogwane said that the Expo presented an opportunity for all exhibitors, visitors and delegates to engage in meaningful business-to –business matchmaking program which is a platform dedicated to facilitating Business to Business interactions.

He said he was convinced of the immense potential that an event such as Global Expo has, in alleviating poverty by facilitating collaborations in uplifting people’s lives through sustainable investment and trade.
