Political and Administrative Studies lecturer at University of Botswana, Dr Adam Mfundisi, observes that lack of trust between Presidents of Botswana National Front (BNF) and Botswana Congress Party (BCP), Duma Boko and Dumelang Saleshando respectively has collapsed the coalition project Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC).
Dr Mfundisi said the current impasse in the UDC between BNF and BCP will never come to an end. He said lack trust and confidence between the BCP and BNF political leadership has polarised political space, noting that compromise and consensus have been lacking in management of the UDC project.
“Dilemmas inherent in the coalition politics require strategic leadership. The leadership must embody both political skill and personal virtue to champion the peace and tranquility within the UDC. Dictatorship tendency has never been an instrument to ensure a stable and viable coalition arrangement. Emotional intelligence is deficient in the UDC leadership,” the UB scholar stressed.
