SUMOD DAMODAR*
Another calendar year has come upon us, and once again it is time to pick up from where we left off in 2021. Some may opt to chase “new year resolutions”, whilst others may still be contemplating on how to tackle the space ahead……whatever may be your path, BCA wishes every one of you success.
The BCA will continue to follow it’s systematic process in tandem with the Plans for 2022 as prescribed and approved by the Board, ICC and BNSC. We will also pursue projects, changes and cementing of relationships, for the development and growth of Cricket, in Botswana.
Further to the previous efforts and attempts, and following the tour of our Men’s team, to Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, in October 2021, the Tuskers Franchise and Cricket Zimbabwe, have again proven their support and commitment to BCA.
Karabo Motlhanka has been invited by Tuskers to play for their team, as a non-professional, for two (2) four-day games in the Logan Cup, in Harare, Zimbabwe. The first fixture is scheduled for January 17-20th and the second for January 23-26th, 2022. Karabo is scheduled to leave for Bulawayo, tomorrow, January 14th and join the team and return on January 28th, 2022.
The calendar for 2022 has projected for activities under the Development Programme as well as domestic BCA Leagues but will be subject to decisions taken by the Ministries of Health, Education & Sports, which we hope will be forthcoming on a positive note.
The calendar also has a few potential international fixtures, such as;
ACA T20 Cup Finals scheduled for February, in Benoni, South Africa (TBC)
ICC U-19 Girls/Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifiers scheduled for August (TBC), and
ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Sub-Regional Qualifiers at the end of the year (TBC).
The BCA also intends to revive the Annual Women’s T20 Tournament, hopefully in August.
The BCA sincerely thanks the MYSC, BNSC, ICC, ACA, stakeholders, well-wishers, officials and the Media for their continued support, commitment and hard work in promoting Cricket and endorsing our efforts in “Bringing Cricket to the Nation”.
