The First Lady of Botswana, Neo Masisi, was impressed with Botswana Telecommunications Corporation (BTC)’s new initiative – The BTC Foundation Charity Walk – which attracted close to 700 people in Moshupa.

The First Lady was the Chief Walker for both the 15km and 30km laps. The event was well attended by Batswana from across the country and also had visitors from regional countries such as Lesotho.

“I would like to commend BTC for such a noble course. It is impressive that you have taken initiative to raise funds for humanitarian causes. We would like to see more entities following your example. Let us continue to make the spirit of giving a part of us and let us impart the spirit into our children. These are the principles in which the developments of this country are anchored on,” said the First Lady Neo Masisi.

She urged local entities to follow BTC’s footsteps in raising funds through different initiatives such as the BTC Foundation Charity Walk to raise funds for underprivileged children and communities as it is a way of building the country.

BTC is yet to announce the amount of money that was raised during the BTC Foundation Charity Walk and where it will be donated to.

“Charity walks are not only for networking purposes but they also play a pivotal role in the physical and mental well-being of all the participants and therefore there is need to participate more in such activities. Good health and wellness are necessary for health development and therefore I thank you for being part of this event today,” said the First Lady as she thanked the participants for attending the charity walk.

Also present was the BTC Foundation Board Chairman, Kgosi Michael Mothobi Letsogile Mothobi, who expressed his gratitude towards the attendants who took time from their daily schedule to come and walk for charity causes. He stated that the main purpose for this walk is to assist underprivileged children.

The BTC Foundation Charity Walk is one of the initiatives that BTC has introduced as a way of empowering and growing the community.  After the walk one participant Jason Tau spoke of his experience stating that it was his first time to embark on such a walk and he opted to take the 30 km lap with his companions.

“It’s my first time to walk such a long distance, I have been preparing for it and it has been a great experience which taught me a lot about life and charity. I am looking forward to be involved in next year’s BTC Foundation Charity Walk,” said Tau.
