Successful candidate will be appointed on pensionable terms/fixed term contract of up to five(5)years.

SCHOOL OF BUSINESS AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT REF: ALSS01/25 DEPARTMENT OF ACADEMIC LITERACY & SOCIAL SCIENCES (ALSS)

TEACHING INSTRUCTOR, CHINESE LANGUAGE & CULTURE

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

 

  • To teach the Chinese Language & Culture course to undergraduate students, and to build a knowledge base in this area.
  • To administer teaching activities within the Chinese Language and Culture and assist in curriculum development assignments in the Department.
  • To participate in research and disseminate out put through
  • To be an active participant in university, professional and community service

 

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

 

Academic Qualifications:

 

  • A relevant Master’s Degree in Chinese Language and Culture, or a Master of Education Degree (majoring in the Teaching of Chinese Language & Culture /Master of Education Degree and a Certificate in Teaching Chinese Language and Culture to speakers of other languages, MPhil Language and Culture with specific reference to the teaching of Chinese Language, or Masters’ degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages/ Master in International Education of Mandarin or Equivalent qualification
  • In addition, HSK Level 6 or Advanced Chinese Mandarin or Certificate for Teachers of Chinese to Speakers of other Languages is required.

 

Professional Membership:

 

  • Membership with any relevant professional body is an added advantage.
  • BQA accreditation is an added advantage

 

Experience:

 

Experience in the teaching of Chinese language and culture will be an added advantage, especially teaching experience in a higher education environment. Ability to develop and package modules according to BQA standards is an added advantage.

 

SKILLSANDCOMPETENCIES

 

  • Strong communication skills in the Chinese Language–Both written and verbal
    • Good communication skills in the English language
    • Competency in the Chinese Culture
    • Ability to effectively present information about the Chinese Language and Culture in all situations to staff, students, and other employees of the organization and to external
    • Ability to use appropriate media in a classroom situation;
    • Computer Literacy – using MS Office – Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and other relevant software
    • Good knowledge and understanding of higher education environment;
    • Involvement in professional activities;
    • Knowledge of basic research;
    • Ability to manage & analyse information;
    • Ability to adhere to agreed workplans and timelines;
    • Sets and monitors standards;
    • Plans, implements and evaluates the offering of modules or courses;
    • Ability to package Chinese courses according to BQA standards
