Embattled Botswana Patriotic Front (BPF) has an upper hand to win Serowe West Parliamentary by-election as Bangwato are expected to punish the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) for what they perceive as harassment of their Kgosikgolo Ian Khama.
Serowe West will be a battle ground for the BDP candidate Moemedi Dijeng who has suffered several defeats in his attempt to become the area MP in the past, while BPF’s Onalepelo Kedikilwe will be making his maiden appearance.
Political and Administrative Studies lecturer at University of Botswana (UB), Dr Adam Mfundisi said Serowe West constituency will be an interesting one due to factionalism within the BPF. He noted that BDP versus BPF is not a competitive election in spite of the political corruption that the ruling party pursues, adding that the BDP and its leadership have agonized, demeaned, demonized, intimidated, and harassed the people in Serowe and its environs. Therefore, the BPF, supported by Bangwato Kgosikgolo Ian Khama, are hot favorites to win, he said.
