Mosalakatane takes over as IDM chairperson

As the Institute of Development Management Board of Governors convenes in Eswatini next week (1 – 3 May 2019), its Local Board Chairperson, Naledi Mosalakatane will take over the highest responsibility of leading the regional entity. A highly qualified Human Resource Practitioner, Mosalakatane takes the baton from Lesotho’s Dr Thabiso Lebese who has been at the helm since 2018.

Mosalakatane, who is currently Director of Public Service Management in the Ministry of Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration, is not new to IDM. From 2003 to 2005, she led the Institute’s Botswana Campus as Country Director where she provided strategic direction through formulation and implementation of corporate strategies.

She is also praised for building a sustained a high performance culture in the Institute through the introduction and coordination of performance management, change management and quality management interventions. Mosalakatane was instrumental in building strategic alliances and partnerships with organisations of high repute both at home and abroad.

Regional Director Richard Malikongwa has welcomed Mosalakatane’s appointment as Regional Board Chairperson and looks forward to her wealth of knowledge and expertise in taking IDM to greater heights. She comes at a time when IDM is on an ambitious journey to make inroads into SADC and the rest of Africa.

Malikongwa said IDM continues to work hard to remain relevant to national strategies as evidenced by the programmes they have developed to equip government and private sector with the right human capital, citing the Institute’s Project Management programme as a perfect example of their interventions.

“With the global shift towards project-based organisations, Project Management has become an essential business skill for all successful professionals. Project management is no longer reserved only for professionals in technical cadres managing large and complex projects. Today, project management skills are used by business and services professionals across the board to get tasks done and projects completed on time, within budgets and to acceptable quality,” he explained.

According to Malikongwa, the public sector, NGOs as well as donor and aid agencies are increasingly emphasising outputs-based funding with clearly articulated time-lines, adding that without effective programme and project management, achieving acceptable and effective service delivery is unlikely, and achieving targets set by donor agreements becomes almost impossible. He cited the importance of strategic leadership and guidance by the board for IDM to deliver on effective programmes to support governments to achieve.

He added: “Mosalakatane possesses the highly sought after skill that we need for us to drive the IDM agenda and deliver on the mandate bestowed on us by our shareholders. The experience she amassed from the SADC as a recruitment consultant as well as other credible bodies such as Botswana Housing Corporation will indeed go a long way in positioning our regional entity as the preferred service provider in the market.”

She holds a Master’s Degree in Human Resource Development from the University of Manchester and Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences from University of Botswana.
