Speaking at the conference, Lucara Botswana MD Naseem Lahri pointed out that Africa has to start thinking about exporting human capital. She said as it stands, Lucara will be underground in June and the company has brought in experts to train the locals on procedures.”

We asking that update the online article to incorporate the information below:  At the conference Naseem Lahri, Managing Director of Lucara Botswana, spoke about diamond skills, specifically the skills in relation to the XRT. The company is currently training Lucara Botswana employees to take over operations of the XRT. The training will be complete and operations will be fully transitioned from consulmet to Lucara by June 2019.  The individuals who have trained for this project can later be exported to countries such as Canada as they have been equipped with international skills.

In regards to going underground – Naseem Lahri stated that Lucara is currently completing a feasibility study evaluating the potential for an underground mining operation at Karowe. The results of the feasibility study will be available in the second half of 2019.
