. Selebo preaches unity and love, promotes Botswana

Gaone Selebo’ s latest single titled ‘Botswana Lefatshe La Rona’ released June 2021 is a hit among fans as it speaks to the patriotism of the country and its people. Singer, Vocalist and Actress ruth Moore well known for her role as the first lady judge for My Star Botswana then Pop Star Botswana and popular Orange Botswana Ditebogo Points advert is a big fan of Selebo’s new song.
“Pina ena e a re tlotlomatsa re le Batswana as it describes us as a nation e e utlwanang, ee ratanang. Furthermore, it tells a story that we were under the British rule and now we are independent,” she described. Moore believes there is more to the song which touches extensively on the history of the country mentioning the Three Dikgosi and the direction into the future thereof. “One can sense the hard work and homework put into the lyrics; it was not written just so it can be played on radio. Selebo is a proud Motswana who is selling her country in a positive way in song,” Moore added.
The founding director for Juice Magazine Davy McQueen has also listened to the song and is pleased by the message and the melody embedded within it. “All I can say about this single is that it shows growth on Gaone’s part. The rhythm is in sync with her vocal abilities and also her song writing has improved a lot,” he mentioned.
Selebo who hails from Shoshong said the song describes Botswana as a land of peace, love and unity. “By writing this song I realized that Batswana are a very peaceful and loving nation and they respect each other,” she said. A woman of many talents Selebo also manages her own promotion company ‘Lady G Promotions which she started in 2019 and presently has 19 artists under her wing. “My experience in the music industry was not smooth but i endured. This prompted me to support and promote other artists who are faced with so many challenges such as financial constraints and lack of market to sell their products among others,” she lamented. Her history with music dates back to her childhood years where she led school choirs and general assembly choruses at the age of 12.
She has since continued to nurture her talent post completing her studies, starting off as a backing vocalist for fellow gospel artists Rachel Taukobong. “I embraced this role for a long time before I released my first single track called “Re Tla Thaba in 2017 followed by a music video,” she explained. The video was nominated for the Annual Gospel Awards (AGA) in best Gospel video category where she battled the likes of Tshepho Lesole and Gabo Thotobolo. A star on the rise, in September 2020 Selebo released an album called Hosanna which consists of 6 songs coupled by a video for the album’s hit song ‘Ke A Mo Rata Jesu’ which is doing well in the market.
