The Botswana National Front Youth League has noted the appointment of Member of Parliament for Selibe Phikwe West Cde Dithapelo Keorapetse as the new Leader of Opposition following a UDC parliamentary caucus decision taken on Sunday, July 10 2022.

We wish to take this time to congratulate Hon. Keorapetse on his new responsibility and wish him all the best as he discharges his duties in leading the opposition contingent in parliament.

Mr President, direct appointment is not a panacea for corruption

Cde Keorapetse is a very experienced legislator having first made it to parliament in the 11th parliament. He has led a number of committees in parliament including the Public Accounts Committee where he has been doing an incredible job keeping leading government officials to account.

He was one of the best performing MPs in the 11th parliament as well as the current 12th parliament and there is no doubt in our minds that he shall continue being the trumpet voice of the downtrodden dejected and poor masses of the people of our country.

The BNFYL is particularly pleased that in Cde. Keorapetse, the UDC has finally deployed a Leader of Opposition who is committed and loyal to the UDC brand, ideas and policy perspective. A cadre who is not a conditional member of the UDC, but is a member in totality and shall pronounce and defend the UDC and its policies in parliament but as well outside parliament. It is our view that only such a person is fit for the position of LOO. We have lacked this kind of loyalty and commitment with the immediate former LOO, who would associate himself with the UDC in parliament

then join those who attack and destroy it as soon as parliament adjourns.

Such inconsistencies we would now hope are a relic of the past with the appointment of Cde. Dithapelo Keorapetse. A chief spokesperson of the UDC in parliament should be someone who believes in and ashamedly associates themselves with the UDC and we believe Hon. Dithapelo Keorapetse is one such person.
