Olefile Cisco Mashabila

Botswana Geoscience Institute, Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Olefile Cisco Mashabila as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) with effect from September 01, 2021. Mashabila takes over from Tiyapo H Ngwisanyi whose tenure of officer ended on July 31, 2021 having led the institute during its formative and transformation period from the Department of Geological Survey. 

Mashabila joins BGI from Debswana Mining Company (Orapa, Letlhakane and Damtshaa Mines), where he worked under different capacities and recently as Senior Mineral Resources Manager. Mashabila brings to BGI his treasure of knowledge, skills and expertise, which include but not limited to strategic planning and leadership, mineral resources & reserve management, data & information analysis and resolution and project management.

He holds MSc (Engineering /MRM) from the Witwatersrand University, MSc Strategic Management (University of Derby (UK) and BSc Geology from the University of Botswana. He possesses a Palladium Kaplan – Norton Balanced Scorecard Certificated and affiliated to the South Africa Council for Natural Scientific Professionals (SACNASP), BGI Board Chairperson, Professor Motsoptse P. Modisi, welcomed  Mashabila during a recent Full Board Meeting and hailed his appointment as timely.

Professor Modisi expressed the Board’s confidence on  Mashabila to take the Institute to the desired heights particularly during this period of uncertainties.

In his response, Mr Mashabila expressed his determination and commitment to contribute to the Institute’s transformation to a modern geological organisation.
