Judges should redeem themselves

From time immemorial our Judiciary has been in the news for the wrong reasons. From complaints about failure to deliver judgments on time to delivering poor uninspiring judgments that do not advance  our jurisprudence, from being accused of embezzlement of some funds to embarrassing apologies. From judges subordinating themselves to the whims and caprices of the Executive, from secretive appointments that border on nepotism to a recruitment process that lacks transparency and fairness. From internal fights between judges and their superiors-the Chief Justice to allegations of some judges being captured via forum shopping, to even judges refusing to hear very weighty matters of national importance hiding behind some technicalities.

Frustrated over the blemishes that have tainted our judiciary, President Advocate Duma Boko exploded on International Human Rights Day and spewed bile at some judges and the horrible decisions they made, which were clearly calculated to deny Basarwa the enjoyment of their human rights fully. At one point or the other someone had to call those judges to order, to dispense justice or ship out! Therefore, Boko’s criticism of the conduct of some within our judiciary should not be construed as undermining the judiciary.
