DumaTau Wins Condé Nast Traveler 2022 Hot List Award

DumaTau, a Premier Camp in the heart of Botswana’s Linyanti Wilderness Reserve, has been recognised as one of the best new hotels in the world in Condé Nast Traveler’s 26th edition of its Hot List. With only six properties included from across Africa, DumaTau is also the only camp listed in the country.

Each year, the Condé Nasteditorial team members “index the best, brightest openings”. This year, the editors of the publication’s seven worldwide editions had a hand in scouting and selecting the entries. At its heart, this is still a hotel list – a whopping 96 properties made the cut this year, a testament to the tourism and hospitality industry’s resilience post the effects of COVID-19.

“We greatly appreciate the support and recognition of DumaTau shown by the Condé Nasteditorial team, having taken the time to really appreciate what is at play at DumaTau and Little DumaTau. This is more than luxury conservation tourism; it is sustainable travel with tangible impacts on conservation, environmental care, community support and cultural preservation. We’re proud to have this chance to continue to highlight the importance of the Linyanti as a critically important conservation area, and to invite guests to experience our camp and its prolific wildlife. As they do so, they’ll be adding their own stories to the collective narrative of one of Botswana’s most remarkable regions – a true treasure. We are so proud of our team at DumaTau and the exceptional experiences they deliver for all guests, and we celebrate this achievement with them”, said Kim Nixon, Okavango Wilderness Safaris MD.

According to Condé Nast, “Because (almost) no hotel is an island, we’ve widened the lens to include the restaurants, culture, transportation, and cruises you need to know, and the destinations that are reinventing themselves. We mean it when we say this may be the hottest Hot List yet”.

With unique access to both the Linyanti River and Savuti Channel, DumaTau boasts an almost constant stream of elephants and other creatures passing by. The reserve’s diverse, pristine 126 000 hectares offers truly exclusive excursions and close-up wildlife encounters.  The Linyanti Wildlife Reserve is a must-see spectacle, filled with varied habitats, a multitude of wildlife and wonderful scenery. DumaTau’s location near the visible end of the Great Rift Valley is quite extraordinary; the camp offers an unrivalled wilderness experience, with private access to Zibadianja Lagoon and more than 45 kilometres of exclusive traversing along Linyanti River frontage, as well as the north and south banks of the Savuti Channel – think effortless space, privacy, seclusion and memorable wildlife encounters. The recently rebuilt camp takes full advantage of its extensive wilderness area to create an unparalleled safari experience. Eight tented suites with private plunge pools sit on wooden walkways mere steps from the wildlife corridors, so animals often wander peacefully through camp. Interiors of hand-crafted mosaic tile, acacia wood, and local textiles reflect the heart of the Linyanti.

Just by staying at DumaTau, seeing herd after herd of elephants as they wind their way along their ancient paths, and learning more about these animals – and the others that DumaTau shares its home with – our guests will leave knowing that they have made a positive impact on the conservation of this extraordinary area.

“We hope that the Hot List will encourage many more travellers to join us in Botswana and to experience the magic of its extraordinary wilderness areas, including the Linyanti and Okavango Delta – and more,” said Kim.
