Amid growing fears of an escalating health crisis, the Botswana Federation of Public, Private and Parastatal Sector Unions (BOFEPUSU) and the Botswana Federation of Trade Unions (BFTU) have jointly decried what they describe as a ‘leadership crisis’, accusing the Health Minister Dr. Stephen Modise and the top leadership of poor management and lack of action, which they say have deepened the crisis in public health facilities.
Following the minister’s recent address on the ongoing medicine shortage, delivered two months after the declaration of a State of Public Health Emergency, the federations insist that the situation remains dire. They maintain that drug shortages persist across the country’s hospitals and clinics, resulting in the continued loss of lives that could have otherwise been saved.
