APYPL CALLS ON IMMEDIATE CLOSURE OF SCHOOLS

It has been abundantly clear for some time that the announcement by the Government for the wider reopening of schools was ill-considered, premature and unworkable.

“The Government’s decision to open schools was a bad idea and mounting evidence that this would contribute to a second wave of infections and deaths from the Coronavirus.

The decisions to keep schools reopen more widely could be extremely damaging to public health as well as to the health and safety of children and adults in schools.

The overwhelming majority of teachers remain extremely worried that with schools opening to more children whilst safe social distancing and PPE continue to be major concerns, wider school reopening is simply not safe.

In the absence of definitive guidance from the Government, many schools have struggled to understand what they need to do in order to meet appropriate health and safety standards.Koore re beile mo Modimong fela

Imagine a press release was  circulating indicating that office of the president will be closed for some time following the detection of positive COVID-19 status among some staff members but in some schools even if a student or a teacher can be detected the school continue to operate normal.

Another savingram was circulating advising school managements to ensure learners do not crowd during break, meal time and when they wait for their transport after school, but remember how crowded are they on those combies and taxis when being transported,no social distancing at all.

The APYPL calls on the BDP government to immediately close the schools atleast for a month as a measure to contain and control the spread of the virus.Students can be given school material for a month to go and revise at home to push syllabus.

We call on Batswana to exercise maximum caution because this virus is real and is taking lives of our loved ones….

No one should ever think that he/she can’t be a victim of this vicious disease because it can infect all of us.

This virus needs all of us to be responsible…CLOSE SCHOOLS FOR THE SAFETY OF OUR FUTURE LEADERS..
