Palapye Administrative Authority (PAA) councilors visited multi-purpose stadium, DCEC office, to check the progress of the 25 million multipurpose stadium and to appreciate and learn more on the activities that are taking place at the Directorate of Corruption and Economic Crime Office, which opened its doors recently in Palapye.

When briefing the councilors Multipurpose stadium contractor Letsweletse Mashila indicated that Phase 1 of the stadium which is sponsored by Morupule Coal Mine will be completed by end of the year. He also highlighted that procurement of the services is done locally, that is within Palapye. “Everything that is procured is from around Palapye, it is only when the services are not provided locally that we source from outside,” he said. “Of the 82 employees engaged, 49 are locals, the sub contracts are from Palapye, even the Botswana Power Corporation that provided the electricity line is from Palapye,” he added.For his part, Directorate of Corruptio and Economic Crime (DCEC) head of Palapye Teekay Kaelo implored councilors to work hand in hand with their office in order to help with the fight against corruption. He said that collaboration of all the stakeholders in the war against corruption is crucial, therefore he said the visit by the councilors is an indication that they care about the fight for corruption.

Palapye Administrative Authority Chairperson Councillor Khumoyame Lekoko said they were happy with the progress of the Multipurpose stadium. Furthermore she thanked DCEC for opening their office in the Central District and assured them of their collaboration.
