We won’t kill Kgosi – DISS

Government has denied claims by former head of the Directorate of Intelligence and Security (DIS) Isaac Kgosi that the agency wants to kill him.  “It is not in the national interest for the DIS to kill Kgosi, let alone any citizen of Botswana,” the government said in a statement. The agency on the contrary said: “Kgosi aggressively confronted and photographed the DIS officers while on duty around Extension 5 area (in the capital Gaborone) on February 22.”

Fears of being targeted were repeated by Kgosi’s close ally – former President Ian Khama who told an unsanctioned Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) meeting in Serowe that: “They are targeting me, my family; my friends even you (Bangwato) and want to bury us”.

Kgosi was recently arrested on arrival at the Sir Seretse Khama International Airport and detained overnight followed by days of searching all his properties. The searches have continued to include properties of Kgosi’s close allies and business associates. It is suspected that he will soon be arraigned before court to answer for various offences, including alleged corruption and tax evasion.
