This year marks a major milestone in the history of the University of Botswana. For the first time since its establishment 37 years ago, the University will host three separate graduation ceremonies on two consecutive days. For the first time again, the three ceremonies take place at the University’s state-of-the-art Campus Indoor Sports Centre.
The first ceremony will be held on the morning of October 10, 2019 and will see 1002 students graduating in the faculties of Business and Social Sciences. The guest speaker is former Judge of the International Criminal Court, Judge Sanji Monageng. The second ceremony follows in the afternoon of the same day with 778 students graduating in the faculties of Education and Humanities. The guest speaker is Executive Director and Co-Founder of Awil College, formerly AFDA Botswana College, Dr Mothusi Phuthego.
The last batch of 544 students graduates in the faculties of Science, Medicine, Health Sciences, Engineering and Technology on morning of October 11, 2019. The guest speaker is Professor Sesae Mpuchane, a former Head of the Department of Biological Sciences and Dean of the Faculty of Science at the University of Botswana. This year the University will see a record number of 24 graduates conferred PhD followed by 350 MPhil, Masters and Post Graduate Diplomas, 1 821 Degrees and 259 Diploma.
A number of dignitaries are expected to grace the events among them His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Botswana, Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi, Cabinet Ministers, members of Diplomatic Corps, captains of industry and some prominent members of the public.
