Masisi appeals to the elderly

Batsadi bame,

I humbly greet you as a proud son of Botswana and offer you my deepest respect for the important role you play in preserving the traditional values of Batswana.

Many of you saw the birth of our democratic nation in 1966 and have since continued to assist in building our beloved Botswana into the peaceful and law-abiding country that it is today. It is thanks in large part to you that we are a shining example of an inclusive, non-racial democracy that embraces the spirit of Kgotla.

It is this tenacious soul of inclusivity that has endeared our notion of Kgotla to the international market and seen it adopted as an advanced system of conflict resolution and consultation.

We are less than 30 days away from making an indelible impact on the destiny of Botswana. On the 23rd of October, we will once again ask you to make your voice heard and make your mark for the future of this great nation.

As you well know, the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) has successfully guided our country since independence, and through careful and considerate governance, we have gained the respect of the world. Botswana continues to make substantial progress in growing our economy to the benefit of all our people; and we remain committed to job creation and empowerment of our great nation.

Furthermore, recognising the influence you have on our country and the strong impression that you leave on our young Batswana, we want to make every effort to help you in whatever way we can. As part of this commitment, we will be increasing pensions for all elders and war veterans, improve access to healthcare and mobile clinics as well as the revamping of social development services.

What might be of the most interest to you is the Land Tenure reform whereby you will be able to use up to 50% of your masimo for none agri-related business purposes.

We truly mean it when we say that Botswana is for all and we are, therefore, making a marked difference for every citizen. It is only by coming together that we can truly rise together as a nation.

President Mokgweetsi E. K. Masisi
