CHURCH donates food hampers

Spiritual Sons and Daughters of Major 1 Church in Mmopane in collaboration with Taiwanese charity organisation, Tzu Chi Foundation, has donated over 1, 000 food hampers to residents of Tsetseng village in the Kweneng District as part of relief efforts against negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The hampers contained various food items such as bags of rice, canned food, vegetables and fruits, among others. Speaking during the handing over on Friday, the Head of Spiritual Sons and Daughters of Major 1, Apostle Vincent Majama said the donation was a response by the Church and Tzu Chi Foundation to calls by the Botswana government for all sectors of society to lend a helping hand in alleviating poverty, especially as many people lives have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Apostle Majama  added that the donations were a part of a charity drive that the church launched in 2019 as an exercise of compassion, which he noted as one of the core principle of Christianity.

Spiritual Sons and Daughters of Major 1 Church and Tzu Chi Foundation have so far donated over 4,000 bags of rice to needy families in 23 places. These include Old Naledi, Tlokweng, Mogoditshane, Metsimotlhabe, Gobojango and Letlhakeng.

“The word of God is rooted in love, and preaching the message of God alone without demonstrating it in acts is inadequate. It is therefore for this reason that as a church, we are actively involved in charity” said Apostle Majama

Representing Tzu Chi Foundation in Botswana is  Naledi Anastacia Lesaumako.

Receiving the donations on behalf of Tsetseng residents, Letlhakeng Sub District Commissioner Ikgopoleng Lekoape applauded Spiritual Sons and Daughters of Major 1 Church and Tzu Chi Foundation for heading the call to assist Government in caring for the needy, saying the donation will go a long way in cushioning people against negative effects of COVID-19.
