Boko wanted by Deputy Sheriffs

Deputy Sheriffs are on a manhunt for president of the opposition Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) Advocate Duma Boko after obtaining a writ of execution against him for unpaid debt on June 28, 2019.

Gaborone High Court issued the writ of execution against Boko directing for the attachment and taking into execution of his movable properties. Boko owes an events management company RMC Marketing (Pty) LTD a sum of P146 134.00 for service rendered by supplying a public address system at the July 2018 Botswana National Front (BNF) conference held in Rakops.

RMC Marketing was contracted to erect a stage, provide hi-tech sound systems and Wi-Fi during the conference which was regarded as very successful. RMC Marketing management referred enquiries on the matter to their company lawyers. Through their lawyers, Lerumo Mogobe Legal Practitioners, RMC obtained the writ of execution after Boko failed to pay the amount owing on the set date of 28th June 2019.

Armed with the writ, the Deputy Sheriff is looking for Boko to serve him before proceeding to impound and attach his movable property because the BNF president had pledged to the party that he will sponsor the whole conference including transport and food for the delegates.

“My intention is to provide transportation for all delegates to the conference and to feed them while there without them having to spend anything. This will relieve the pressure on the delegates themselves as the local leadership,” wrote Boko, in a letter ahead of the conference.

The pledge by Boko was met with suspicion in some quarters at the BNF with some members questioning the source of the funds, and why it was not channelled through the BNF Treasurer, Noah Salakae.

In an interview on Friday, Boko said he was not aware of the writ of execution against him but confirmed that the company has been engaged by the party to organise their events. “If there is anyone we are still owing they must come forward and we settle the debt,” he said.

Asked why the writ of execution is against him not the party, Boko said he doesn’t know as he has not seen the writ of execution. “I am currently busy launching our candidates for the General Elections and don’t have time for petty issues,” he said.
