Bangwato move to appoint a regent

A kgotla meeting planned by Gammangwato royal uncles at Serowe main kgotla over the weekend was expected to launch a process to identify a replacement for Kgosi Sediegeng Kgamane who recently retired from Bangwato regent post, citing old age and ill health.

The meeting will defy at recent order from government banning convening of kgotla meetings to discuss political issues related to Ian Khama and his dispute with President Mokgweetsi Masisi. 

Speaking in Serowe on Monday, royal uncles representative Rasebolai Kgamane said as part of the agenda, they will discuss issues relating to the welfare, including the possibility of their paramount chief, Kgosi Ian Khama returning home from a year-long self-imposed exile in South Africa.
