Ban on the Sale of Liquor

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that His Excellency the President, acting in accordance with regulation 30G of theEmergency Powers (COVID-19) Regulations, 2020 has, with immediate effect suspended all liquor licences issuedin terms of the Liquor Act.The suspension of the sale of alcohol is based on evidence that consumption of alcohol increases the risks posedby COVID-19 due to its negative effects on adherence to COVID-19 protocols. All liquor stores in Botswana shalltherefore remain closed and liquor shall not be sold or consumed in public places until further notice.For purposes of this Government Notice, “liquor” includes all traditional beers.For the avoidance of doubt, “liquor licence” means a –(a) bar liquor licence;(b) bottle store liquor licence;(c) liquor depot licence;(d) discotheque/ nightclub licence;(e) distributor liquor licence;(f) wholesale liquor licence;(g) club liquor licence;(h) temporary liquor licence;(i) restaurant bar licence; and(j) traditional beer liquor depot licence.
