- ‘I was never a Khama loyalist’
I wish to express my deepest regrets and sincerest apologies to Batswana and the nation at large for ever defending former President SKI Khama when he was the President of my beloved political party and regrettably the President of our Republic.
Whilst an apology will regrettably not alter the outcome of his persistent tarnishing of the good image of our beautiful and peaceful country, I do extend it with all sincerity.
Further, I would like to express disappointment in his deliberate misinformation among the issues being allegations claiming malicious harassment of suspects by the law enforcement organs. He’s saying this because it is now his brothers being investigated, interviewed, questioned and interrogated.
As a former law enforcement operative and having served in the Military Intelligence Wing of the BDF from 1985 to 1999 based in Francistown, I am fully aware that investigations are carried out all the time by law enforcement authorities. It is just that most of the people who have been called in by our security organs for interviewing, questioning and interrogation of persons of interest to law enforcement authorities go unnoticed compared to the Khama brothers.
The fact is, anybody can be investigated regardless of their social status. Investigations can be dynamic, and the way events unfold and evidence is revealed can be unpredictable. This premise also holds true for interviewing, questioning and interrogatiion of suspects. Players in a criminal event may be revealed as suspects at different stages of the investigations, it is normal.
An investigation is a careful search or examination in order to discover facts. Law enforcement agencies investigate and lay charges if there is and or was an offence committed.
Interviewing a possible suspect is the first stage and the lowest level of interaction. For a suspect to be questioned, there will be some type of circumstantial evidence that allows the investigator to detain that suspect for questioning, interrogation and interviewing.
So the former President is deliberately misiforming the nation and the international community through his continued and persistent television interviews, eNCA in particular, a South African media House.
Let us also not forget that this is the same Ian Khama who used to shun the media. Today we see him manipulating social media to undermine our democracy to defame and demean the current state President. But, I trust that his continued media manipulation and disinformation tactics will not deter our investigation authorities. And it will NEVER change his well-known past.
The former president must stop misleading Batswana and the international community. There’s peace and tranquil in Botswana. One man’s personal crisis is not a national crisis. The man’s desperation has reached the highest point of self destruction. A spoiled brat who is crying out loud protestations because the current President has closed all doors of his corruption modus operandi in the government enclave.
He recommended the current President to the nation, believing that the President will be his surrogate in the State House. He thought that Masisi would appoint his young brother Tshekedi Khama and keep Isaac Kgosi as Director General of our National Intelligence organ so that he can rule from the grave. Botswana is at peace, and anybody thinking that “lehatshe le thakathakane” it’s a figment of his imagination and a true sign of a man seeking public sympathy.
Lastly, there is a continued misinformation by some opposition fanatics that I used to be a Khama loyalist, for the record, I have NEVER been a Khama loyalist, I have always been a bonafide member of the Botswana Democratic Party. Having defended Ian Khama during his term as State President does not mean that I was his loyalist, he was the President of my political organisation, the BDP, I am one individual who vehemently differed with him at our internal Party gatherings and went out to the public to defend him. He didn’t like it; I did it anyway.
I MacDonald Peloetletse, defended our former President Sir QKJ Masire, I defended our former President Dr FG Mogae, I defended our former President SKI Khama, he was the President of my political organisation.
I shall defend His Excellency President Dr E.K.M. Masisi.
Ian Khama is no longer a member of the BDP, he’s an opposition activist. I have no reason to be defending him when he’s attacking my political organisation, spewing political rhetoric and malicious propaganda against a political organisation that elevated him to the position of Vice President and subsequently State President. A political organisation founded by his own father, former President the late Sir Seretse Khama.
For the record, I was NEVER a Khama loyalist; the word loyal means giving or showing firm and constant support or allegiance to an institution and it’s current leader. Giving or showing firm and constant support or allegiance to an institution and its current leader is called loyalty. Loyalty to the institution and not the individual. I am a bonafide member of the BDP and NOT a member of any member of the BDP.
