Competencies
Qualifications and Experience
•LLB from a recognised university plus admission to practice in the courts of Botswana is required.
* Five years post-qualification experience in a legal and compliance role.
* Experience as a corporate attorney is an added advantage.
* Law Society Membership in good standing is essential.
* Exposure to corporate and board governance.
* Professional secretarial qualification is an added advantage.
* Experience in a Higher Education academic institution is an added advantage.
Key Performance Areas
* Act as the Secretary to Council by compiling documents for Council meetings and taking minutes to ensure quality support for decision-
* Play a critical role in ensuring legal compliance and effective risk management by advising the Council on statutory and governance requirements,
maintaining compliance with applicable laws
and policies, and facilitating the identification and mitigation of governance-related risks.
* Act as the principal legal resource person to the University management by providing legal advice on a wide range of issues to ensure good governance.
* Advise the Council, Vice Chancellor and the Executive Management Team on matters involving the constitution and statutes of the University by interpreting them effectively and drafting or redrafting
* Keep the Vice Chancellor and the Executive Management Team appraised of legal issues, including new legislation which has a bearing on the operations of the University to ensure the University
* Strong knowledge of corporate governance principles
